The NHL rumor mill is heating up, and all eyes are on Detroit.

The big story today is former Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Larkin will not play another game for Detroit until a trade is completed. After months of speculation, it appears this situation could finally be reaching its breaking point.

So, what does this mean for the 30-year-old Michigan native?

Larkin has reportedly expanded his list of acceptable trade destinations to 10 teams, giving Detroit more potential options to work with. The former captain is looking for a fresh start, and several teams could benefit from adding an established center who is still capable of making an impact.

One team that really interests me is the Washington Capitals.

Washington has gotten off to a strong start this season, and adding an elite, win-now talent like Larkin could make things even more interesting. The Capitals have an opportunity to strengthen their lineup, and a player of Larkin’s caliber could be a significant addition if the price is right.

Of course, Washington isn’t the only possibility. Larkin’s reported list also includes teams such as the Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Carolina Hurricanes, and Colorado Avalanche. With multiple potential destinations, the biggest question is which organization can put together a deal that satisfies Detroit while giving Larkin the fresh start he wants.

Detroit now faces a difficult decision. The Red Wings need to get meaningful value in return for one of their most important players, but the longer this situation drags on, the more attention it will attract.

So, what’s next?

I have a feeling we could be getting closer to a resolution than many people think. Would I be surprised if Larkin were wearing a different jersey by this time tomorrow? Absolutely not.

My question is simple: Where do you think Dylan Larkin ends up?

Could Washington make a move, or will another contender swoop in and steal the show? Let me know your predictions, and join the conversation here at Sports and Coffee.
